At Wungong Primary School, we understand the privilege and responsibility of caring for the students entrusted to us. We are committed to working in partnership with our parents and the school community to ensure that Wungong Early Childhood Education empowers all children to reach their full potential, engage in life-long learning, lead healthy and successful lives, and contribute positively to the wider community.
Guided by the principles of Belonging, Being and Becoming, our early childhood team recognises that every child brings their own identity, background, and strengths. We create a warm, nurturing environment where children feel a deep sense of belonging—to their classroom, their peers, their educators, and their community.
Our dedicated and passionate educators celebrate the richness of childhood and honour the importance of the present moment—encouraging children to simply be: to play, to wonder and be curious, to express themselves, and to develop meaningful relationships. Through responsive and intentional teaching, we foster being, supporting each child’s sense of self and emotional wellbeing.
We acknowledge Kindergarten as one of the first steps from home to school, and build on children’s existing knowledge, skills, and interests. With a strong focus on relationships, we facilitate open communication with families and co-create a learning journey that nurtures the children’s becoming—supporting their growth into confident learners and capable citizens.
Together, in partnership with our families, we inspire our students to explore, discover, and grow. We lay a strong foundation for their educational journey and for lives filled with purpose, connection, and possibility.
Our ECE evidence-based approach provides a balance of:
• Child-directed play – The child chooses how, when, with what and with whom to engage
• Teacher-guided play – The teacher manages the play environment to achieve specific outcomes
• Intentional teaching – The teacher plans and delivers explicit instruction to achieve specific outcomes.
Planned and incidental learning occurs throughout the day as a whole class, in small groups and individually. The transition from Kindy to Pre-primary is a subtle and gradual move towards more explicit instruction, as it is from the Pre-primary classroom into Year 1. This allows for smooth transition and greater student success.
